Heritage Awards

The North Carolina Baptist Heritage Award, co-sponsored by the Baptist State Convention of NC and the North Carolina Baptist Foundation, is one of the highest honors given by the convention. The award recognizes individuals who represent exemplary service and giving to the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina and its affiliated institutions and agencies.

The inaugural event was held in April 2001 as an outgrowth of the Fundraiser of the Year and Philanthropist(s) of the Year awards (begun in the early 1990s), in which nominations were made by all the state Baptist entities across North Carolina and a special committee selected the recipients for each award. It soon became apparent that there were many deserving individuals, and thus a decision was made that each entity should have the opportunity to honor persons who had contributed much to the life and heritage of their own organization. Each Baptist entity now selects its own honoree(s) to be introduced and presented with a special plaque at a first-class awards luncheon held in April. Twelve to fourteen state Baptist institutions and agencies participate in the event each year.

(The 2023 event was the twenty-first annual Awards Luncheon, with 13 institutions and agencies participating. The event was held in the Imperial Ballroom of the Koury Convention Center at Four Seasons in Greensboro.)
